Application
OPTAPIX PAF 35 brings about an increase in the green and dry breaking strength.
This product contains a relatively high proportion of plasticizer, which acts as a pressing aid for the body. The reduced friction leads to improved compaction.
In addition, the plasticizer prevents the body from drying out too quickly, when it is stored in contact with the air.
The availability of this ready-for-use preparation makes the production process simpler for the user with respect to dosing.
The mode of action of OPTAPIX PAF 35, as temporary binder, depends on the creation of adhesive forces between the raw material particles. A suitable binder-water ratio allows the formation of a film, which attaches itself to the raw material particles and, thus, brings about adhesion.
The amount added is between 1.0 and 3.0 % of the solids content of the body.

Key Performance Advantages and Application Value of Ceramic Temporary Binders
- Simplified Production: As a ready‑to‑use liquid, it requires no prior dissolution and can be added directly to the slurry, streamlining the batching process and reducing errors.
- Improved Quality: By eliminating voids and poor structures between particles, it enhances the uniformity of green bodies, which may reduce defects in the final sintered products and improve yield.
- Broad Compatibility: Excellent slurry compatibility allows it to adapt to ceramic slurries of different formulations (such as alumina, zirconia, and traditional clays), resulting in a wide range of applications.
- Temporary Bonding: It burns out completely during sintering without introducing impurities or affecting the chemical composition of the final ceramic product.
Application analysis focused on ceramic materials and forming processes
Different materials and processes place different emphases on binder requirements. You can refer to the table below for a preliminary assessment:
| Types of Ceramic Materials | Main Applicable Forming Processes | Core Functions and Key Considerations of Binders |
|---|---|---|
| Special ceramics (such as alumina, zirconia, etc.) | Slip casting, dry pressing (after spray granulation) | Improve the strength of both wet and dry green bodies, facilitating handling and trimming after demolding, especially for complex shapes. In spray granulation, it enhances inter‑particle bonding and increases the density of the pressed green bodies. |
| Porous/filtration ceramics | Slip casting, extrusion molding | Maintain skeletal strength while pore formation occurs. Particularly suitable for processes requiring sacrificial templates or chemical‑reaction‑based pore formation, helping to prevent cracking of the green body during pore generation and drying. |
| Traditional ceramics (such as tableware porcelain, electrical porcelain, etc.) | Slip casting, plastic extrusion molding | Enhances plasticity and improves the toughness of green bodies. Reduces breakage rates during handling and glazing on automated production lines, thereby increasing overall yield. |
| Electronic ceramics (substrates, components) | Tape casting, dry pressing | In tape‑casting slurries, it improves flexibility and prevents tearing of the green tape; in dry pressing, it enhances the edge strength of green bodies to facilitate subsequent precision machining. |
If you need a dispersant, it can be used in combination with DOLAPIX CE 64
