Application

GLYDOL N 1003 is a very soluble pressing and plasticizing agent. Its surface activity makes it a suitable wetting and plasticizing agent for clay-containing bodies.The use of this additive makes it possible to reduce the mixing water content while maintaining the same plasticity or increasing the plasticity with the same quantity of mixing water.The improved flow properties mean that the friction between the body and the mould wall is reduced. It is also possible to make the forward motion of the extrudate more uniform.
GLYDOL N 1003 reduces the surface tension of the mixing water which, because of better wetting, leads to an optimised incorporation within the layer silicate lattice of swellable clay minerals and to an optimal distribution of water through the whole body.
The amount added depends on the type of the body used and varies between 0.2 and 0.5 % of the solids content of the body being processed.

Note

Since the additive is hygroscopic, clumps can form after prolonged storage. The effectivity is not affected by this.
